Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before Ash Wednesday which Christians call Lent. They used to eat pancakes because it is a period of abstinence. Thus, Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to eat the food that isn’t allowed in Lent (dairy products and eggs).
