Today we’ll comment a video about a very unusual device: a wearable book, that means a book you can wear and is designed to make you feel different emotions while you read by changing the lights and sending different sensations to your body. Sensory fiction: this means fiction that you can feel with your senses.
The girl who was plugged in: It’s the title of the book the girl is reading. To be plugged in means to be connected. To be plugged in is normally used for electronic devices. When we use this expression for people it can also mean: to be up-to-date/ to follow the latest fashion or trend. In the video the title plays with both meanings of the expression.
The opposite is unplugged.
The book senses the current page and changes the ambient lighting and vibration to match the mood: the “current page” means the page you are reading. “The mood” is the atmosphere or feeling so “to match the mood” means that the book sets the right atmosphere according to what you are reading. For example if you are reading a sad page the book will activate some sensors to make you feel the feeling of sadness.

Heartbeat and shiver simulator. A “heartbeat” is one complete pulsation of the heart. It is what keeps us alive. “Shiver” means: to shake or tremble. For example you shiver when you are scared or when you are very cold.
Localized body temperature control: it controls the temperature of a particular part of the body.
