Born in rural eastern Rwanda, Mr. Uwayesu was only 3 when his parents, both illiterate farmers, died in a politically driven slaughter that killed some 800,000 people in 100 days. The Gambian President has decreed for public sector three-day weekends starting from February 1st. He has added Friday to the regular weekend of Saturday and Sunday, making Friday a day of rest to devote more time to prayers, social activities and agriculture.
In addition, he also said that government employees will work from 8am to 6pm Mondays to Thursdays. But, this means that Government workers may have split weekends, and work an extra 10 hours a week, they work from 8am to 4pm at this time. Working until 6pm means eight hours extra, which could be converted into ten if they have to work on Saturdays too. [Read more…]
